花はうつりにけりな [The Flowers Have Transformed] || 少女フラクタル

The Flowers Have Transformed

The song title refers to a poem by Ono no Komachi. It is part of the poem collection kokin wakshuu, in which the term “color” is used as a synonym for “passion”. A flower’s color however is fleeting, and this knowledge influences the way in which we perceive its color and the way it makes us feel.
The whole poem is as follows:

hana no iro wa utsuri ni keri na itazura ni
wa ga mi yo ni furu nagame seshi ma ni

It describes the feeling of the transience of cherry blossom’s beauty, which is so fragile that the cherry blossoms fall even after a short and gentle rain shower. The poem also uses the metaphoric meaning of “flower” which stands for a person’s youth. So the poem is about recognizing and lamenting the transience of beauty and life in general. However, these things don’t transform to be ugly, but to a different type of beauty.
That was a very short summary of the poem’s analysis, so I recommend you check out a full analysis for yourself! I used a German book as reference (“Im Garten der Stille”), so it probably won’t help you much if you don’t speak German (˘ω˘)

This is the first time I’m more excited for a release of Shoujo Fractal than for Yuuhei’s! The theme of Fractal’s new album seems to be “transcience of life”, so I’m already looking forward to how the songs will turn out to be.
